Overview For Regulatory Boards

Regulatory Boards

FCLB's Recognized Chiropractic Specialties Program (RCSP) is designed to serve chiropractic licensing boards in assessing the rigor and standards of quality of chiropractic specialty programs offering post-graduate credentials.

Once a state board accepts RCSP programs, RCSP  will be an authorized agency for delegating special programs review to.  All  specialty program providers  may not seek  RCSP membership due to already having a recognized provider status in some states and therefore do not need additional recognition.. Delegating the review of a specialty program to RCSP is similar to delegating your background checks or testing. When using RCSP, a state board is using a trusted and recognized expert to review and approve programs that a state board might not otherwise have additional resources to support the review and approval process.  Many state boards are under-staffed, under-funded, and overworked especially if state boards are dependent on volunteer board members  to review specialty programs. Also Board member turnover may also result in gaps of review and approval. Board members are likely stretched for time and may lack subject matter expertise related to some of the programs applying for approval.

If a state delegates RCSP to review specialty programs for approval in that state, the program can receive automatic approval provided the specialty program meets both the scope of practice and the specialty program requirements of the respective state. If a topic is not allowed in the scope of practice for a state such as animal chiropractic, then that RCSP specialty program would not be eligible for approval in that state even though the program may have RCSP approval. The RCSP website contains a list of all RCSP recognized providers for verification purposes for regulatory boards.

The fundamental purpose of the program is to save licensing boards time and money and offer expert oversight. By utilizing RCSP to approve specialty programs, state boards accomplish the approval and can trust the high standards for each program without having to duplicate the same work of review and approval.
